Today there is a veritable cornucopia of products and services being advertised on the net that promise permanent hair removal. Each one professing to be the final solution to unwanted hair that you now have to shave, wax, or tweeze away. So then just how reliable are these adds?
The simple answer, is that truly permanent hair removal is incredibly difficult to achieve, and this is for one good reason. It’s because your hair is like fat which is also incredibly difficult to permanently rid ones self of. You see, in the end, hair is really on your body to protect it, and keep it warm.
Genetically Programmed to Hang on to Every Hair
Your body is genetically programmed to hang on tight to every hair that it has because for your ancient ancestors, hair loss meant that their very survival was in jeopardy. This is also why even people who are completely bald still have intact hair follicles.
So the fact is that as of yet, there is no system, or product that’s guaranteed to deliver “absolutely permanent” results. Now some of them can produce results that can last years, decades and even a lifetime, but that is certainly not for 100% of a persons hair, 100% of the time.
Of all the services being hyped today, electrolysis has been determined to deliver the longest lasting results, and that even beats out laser, or pulsed light treatments. Even so, there is one glaring downside to electrolysis that leads to so many people passing it over to opt for laser hair removal.
That is that electrolysis requires far more treatment sessions than laser, and the sessions also tend to be substantially longer in duration. In fact, in some instances people can be required to undergo as many as 40 electrolysis treatment sessions to achieve their desired results.
Achieving the Appearance of Permanent Hair Removal
It’s important to understand that while the FDA has approved laser machines for hair removal, it has only approved them for “temporary” hair removal. As a matter of fact, in one recent study researchers at the nationally accredited Mayo Clinic found that laser hair removal can reduce hair counts up to 80%.
So then what about that 20% that remains behind? Those remaining hairs that continue to grow, do so as stunted fuzz that’s often so thin, and weak that it breaks off at skin level. Even so, for continued long term, optimal results, repeat laser treatments once every ten years or so may be required for maintaining the appearance of permanent hair loss.
