- Which is the cheapest?
- Which is the fastest?
- Which is the easiest?
- Then how long do they last??
Take a walk through your local mall, or brows online and you will quickly discover that the choices in hair products are almost uncountable. Products to color it, hold it in place, make it look thicker, and fuller, to make it grow, and yes of course any number of products, and gadgets marketed for unwanted hair removal.
The Disposable Razor

Your first option really needs very little explaining because it’s shaving with a razor. Over the past few decades though several innovations have changed what used to be a rather simple, one blade hand held device, so now razors come in any number of configurations, included of course the ever popular multi-bladed disposable.
By far the vast majority of people on the planet opt for this time honored method of unwanted hair removal, in spite of the fact that it is possibly the most expensive. That’s right! If you take a moment to do the math, what you find when the numbers are all added up, is that standard disposable razors can easily cost upwards of $4000 over a ten year period.
Waxing & Sugaring

Would you believe that it was the ancient Egyptians who were the first to develop, and undergo this process? They really are both very similar in that they involve covering the area that is to be stripped of hair with a sticky goo. However; with waxing the goo is melted wax, and with sugaring it’s a sugar based sticky goo.
The upside of either of these two processes is that you can strip off a lot of hair very quickly, and the results last substantially longer than shaving. However; the larger the skin area to be treated, the more painful it is, and this is why people with larger unwanted hair removal issues, say on their back or chest tend to steer clear of waxing and sugaring.
Depilatories

These products may be the ideal solution for people who suffer from irritation, pimples, and bumps caused by shaving with a standard razor. Depilatories are basically creams, lotions, or liquids that are applied to the skin in much the same ways as shaving cream is applied. Then it is allowed time to react.
They function by softening the actual hair to the point that it can be wiped away with a cloth, or scraped off with perhaps a butter knife. They’re relatively inexpensive, react rather quickly, and even have a longer lasting effect because they dissolve the hair shaft down below the surface level of the skin. Be aware though that they can cause irritation on people with sensitive skin.
Laser

This is fast becoming one the most popular unwanted hair removal systems available. It is hands down the most expensive though with sessions ranging anywhere between $150, and $400, depending on the size of the area being treated. Even so, small hand held home laser systems that offer a cheaper alternative have recently been approved for sale.
The treatments involve directing a low powered laser beam through the surface layer of the skin, such that it kills the darker hair follicle, but has minimal effect on the skin which is opaque. Now the one huge benefit of this system is that it delivers results that can last months to years, and in some cases can even be permanent.
Electrolysis

This unwanted hair removal system involves a needle being inserted into the individual hair shaft to kill the root with a slight electric shock. It’s results have been known to last years, and in some cases can even be permanent, but there is one downside to it. That is that it is a slow, time consuming process, so sessions can last for hours.
It can also require three and even for times the number of treatment sessions that one would expect from laser hair removal, but the cost per session for electrolysis is substantially less. Home treatment devices that are proven to work are also available, and unlike laser devices marketed for home use there is no risk of accidental burning with electrolysis.
Medications

There are a number of prescription medications that are available that are primarily for women who are experiencing excessive hair growth due to hormone problems. One of the easiest to use is a topical treatment called Eflornithine that is used to lighten mustaches and other areas where dark facial hair has become an issue.
There is also a group of drugs called antiandrogens that are prescribed to counter the effects of androgens, which are a class of hormones that are responsible for hair growth. Be aware though that both of these types of prescription options do bring with them their own group of potential side effects that you should consider carefully.
